A day at the marché.
Yesterday we walked around Tours a bit and visited Les Halles - the market. Here are a couple of highlights:
My vegetarian kids were excited by the varieties of meat available.
What do you suppose is on sale at a "Boucherie Chevaline?" There isn't any picture on the sign to guide you.
Mmmm... The steaks are so red and rich. Makes your mouth water. Huh? What's that? You found your French / English lexicon? Chevaline means what?! Excuse me a moment...
The Charcuterie has pictures to guide you, thank heaven. No need to feel guilty about eating a little sausage, eh? I mean look at how happy Porky is at the prospect of cleaving off his own ham for you! Tonight we saw another charcuterie with a picture of a blissfully happy oinker descending into a pot of boiling water like it was a hot tub at an alpine spa. We'll get a photo up ASAP.
Needless to say, the kids needed some counseling to work through their PTSD after the trip to the marché. At least there weren't the whole pig heads that I greeted me 20 years ago in select French marchés!
But all ended well as we finally maganed to find something that we could all agree was in good taste.
Ahhh...
Thinking of all the John Hunters, Drew Portocarreros, and John Petersons out there. (Click on the photo for some hi res decadence.)
